    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2013 Toyota Camry owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    CD player

"CD player inoperative. Too expensive to repair. Too interconnected to employ an effective and reliable aftermarket option/solution."

Anonymous, MN (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Heads-up display

"The heads-up display and phone pairing problems were both related to the dash unit failure. It was recommended to have an after market unit be used as opposed to an OEM due to the cost factor for replacement. The replacement of the head unit was done elsewhere."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Display always in night mode, phone would not pair. Dealer tech said unit needed replacement, not cost effective to replace with OEM unit."

Anonymous, FL (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"Problem started at about 69500 miles. Low tire pressure warning light came on and stayed on even if air added to tires, even if tire pressures were all okay"

    Anonymous A., FL (2013 Toyota Camry L 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Radio

"I can not change the channel on the radiobeen going on for several years, and getting worse since it first appeared. At first, it happened when it got too hot on the inside, but once cooled down, worked fine. Now it happens summer and winter. To change channels, I have to turn off the radio, wait a few seconds then turn it back on."

Anonymous A., TX (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Speakers

"The factory speakers are far below reasonable sound reproduction standards."

Anonymous, MN (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Voice control commands

"Blue tooth microphone works very poorly. Unable to use it for hands free calls"

Anonymous, WI (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Premature brake wear

    "Not driving enough"

Anonymous, NY (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Front brake wore much faster than the rear and had to be replaced. The rotor warped and caused significant vibration when getting hot."

Anonymous, CO (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Rotors

"The rotor warp occurred sooner than I expected. Probably within 10k miles."

Anonymous, CO (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Squeaking

"warp rotors caused squeaking when backing"

Anonymous, TN (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"We had it to two different dealers. Both said the brakes are okay. One said it is just the part has got some anomaly but does not affect the performance. We find it annoying!"

Anonymous A., OH (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"Failure of alternator at about 79950 miles. Dash warning light came on suddenly and constantly. Problem resolved at about 79955 odometer miles with a new alternator."

Anonymous, OK (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 3.5-L V6)

"The body design is the worst I have ever experienced. One cannot see the front of the car from the drivers seat, and therefore impossible to parallel park without ending up too far from the curb or scraping against it. While I am quite short, I have two friends with same problem. One is about 2 inches taller, while the other, who is 5 9 exclaimed when sitting in the drivers seat that she found the ability to see the front fender impossible."

Anonymous, MA (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The first Toyota Camry I bought was totaled in an accident when I had it one month. I bought its twin right away."

Anonymous, NY (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Needed a new starter. Had to get car towed."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"Water leaked into spare tire wheel well."

Anonymous, NY (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 3.5-L V6)
    Squeaks or rattles

"A loud clunky noise from the steering column caused me to take it in, it is some sort of bar that has come loose, but costs almost 2K to fix, but not dangerous, just annoying. It is inconsistent in its noise, at first it was all the time, now it has settled down and more noticeable over bumpy roads. Not paying 2k for something that is annoying but not dangerous."

Anonymous A., TX (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    "See previous comments"

Anonymous A., AZ (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other emissions/fuel system problem

"Dealer replaced fuel pump, tank, carbon canister without fixing issue. Finally discovered pinhole leak in plastic breather pipe part of the emission control system. Took over 2 months waiting for new tank."

Anonymous A., AZ (2013 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"The paint started peeling off around the trunk . Super white was the color. Toyota completely repainted the whole car free of charge."

Anonymous A., AZ (2013 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Shocks or struts

"Due to road conditions-pot holes - the struts leaked and caused the car not to bounce at all when going over bumps- which could not be avoided. I brought it to the mechanic and new front struts were put in"

Anonymous, MA (2013 Toyota Camry LE 3.5-L V6)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

Other major transmission & clutch problem

"Transmission had what the service tech described as "shudder" at shifting points. When I researched this problem, it was apparent Toyota was aware of the problem over a number of manufacturing years. I say this because if you experienced this problem before 60K, they would, at their cost replace the torque convertor and update the transmission software. Unfortunately, I purchased this vehicle with a little under 100K, but was still willing to pay to have this taken care of. When I spoke with our local Toyota dealership's service department, they said their policy is to not do anything with the inside of the transmission. Conflicts with the 60K or less information I read about online. They said the only thing they do with transmissions is replace them. That costs close to the entire value of the car. I did find a Valvoline additive that has taken care of the shifting problem for now."

Anonymous A., IN (2013 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    VISIBILITY
    Oct 17, 2013
A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
    Summary:
Toyota Motor Engineering & manufacturing North America, Inc. (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Camry and Camry HV, model year 2013 Avalon and Avalon HV and model year 2014 Corolla vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper switch assembly may short circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 104, "Windshield Wiping and Washing Systems."
    What should you do:
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper switch assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

    AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EQUIPMENT
    Oct 17, 2013
A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.
    Summary:
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module.
    What should you do:
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The recall began on February 5, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
    For more information:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
