    Reliability

    Overall Reliability

We expect the 2025 Legacy will be more reliable than the average new car. This prediction is based on data from 2022, 2023, and 2024 models.

    Most Common Trouble Spots

    Common Trouble Spot

    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2024 Subaru Legacy owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"Vehicle was rear ended. It is in the shop waiting for parts."

Anonymous A., MD (2024 Subaru Legacy)

"there were no problemsI have only had this car since end of June"

Anonymous, CT (2024 Subaru Legacy Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"tire warning light comes on even when tire pressure is correct"

Anonymous, NY (2024 Subaru Legacy Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The engine off for fuel efficiency is clunky/slow and has nearly gotten me rear-ended a few times. It automatically engages every time I start the vehicle so I have to always remember to turn it off. Other vehicles I have driven with the fuel saver I never really noticed, but this car needs improvement. Otherwise the car is nice."

Anonymous, WI (2024 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Android Auto

"Not sure if the fault lies on the Android side or the Subaru side, but phone pairing the latest model (2024) Motorola Razr phone with the 2024 Subaru Legacy is such a nightmare I try to remember to turn off the phone or at least disable Bluetooth before entering the vehicle. This is, obviously, a nuisance."

Anonymous A., KY (2024 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Display screen freezes up

"Got a Thunderstorm Alert. Screen froze. Could not dismiss alert. Resolved when I got to destination and shut off, then restarted car."

Anonymous A., PA (2024 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Voice control commands

"The Tom Tom Map system is terrible. It does not recognize voice commands or mistakes them. The map does not show upcoming exits. I have to resort to Google Maps or Waze on my phone."

Anonymous A., PA (2024 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Engine Electrical

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery replacement, hybrid battery related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, spark plugs and wires failure, auto stop/start.

    What Owners Say

    Electronic ignition

"Once in a while the car lurches like a spark plug wire was pulled off and put back on again. I haven't done anything about it. I drove a brand new 2024 Nissan and it did the same thing so I need to do more research on the problem."

Anonymous, FL (2024 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V power plug

"My wife requires an oxygen generator. When using the 12v pwr plug for the first time the machine ran for 25 minutes and than stopped. The battery in the oxygen machine kept it running. The fuse did not blow. The manual shows 12V = 120 watts which is a 10 amp fuse. My 2009 Toyota has a 20 amp fuse which works fine. The O2 machine requires 11 amps. I wrongly assumed that the power receptacle was standardized among car manufactures. Good lesson. Probably I'll run a 20 amp fuse direct from the car battery."

Anonymous, FL (2024 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
