    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2020 Subaru Legacy owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"Occasionally the screen will display something not intended. Also, under some lighting conditions, such as bright sunlight, it is unreadable and thus unusable. The only safe option is to pull off to the side of the road to make adjustments."

Anonymous A., MI (2020 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Irritating. Need to restart the car to reset. Intermittent problem with no pattern"

Anonymous, HI (2020 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The display screen would freeze after making a selection and be unresponsive until you turned off vehicle and back on to reset it."

Anonymous, CO (2020 Subaru Legacy Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Unit was faulty and replaced by Subaru under warranty."

Anonymous A., WV (2020 Subaru Legacy Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Display screen goes blank

"The display screen in the 2020 Legacy is average at best. There are often delays in the radio playing or Android Auto booting up. I've learned to work around most of these issues."

Anonymous A., PA (2020 Subaru Legacy Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other noises & leaks problem

    "spontaneous windshield crack"

Anonymous, OH (2020 Subaru Legacy Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Squeaks or rattles

"After around ten thousand miles, the dashboard developed squeaks on bumpy roads. Likely loose bolt/screw. A firm push on the dash resolves problem temporarily. Bad enough for me not to want another Subaru. Squeaks in the trunk could not be resolved by dealer too. Minor but VERY irritating. Fit n finish for an XT Limited is poor considering the cost."

Anonymous, HI (2020 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Driver seat started squeaking after 3y9m of use. The problem is known and there is a technical bulletin with a suggested fix. But there was no recall for it (as it's not a safety issue). Fixing it is expensive as it requires removing the driver's seat, so I decided to live with it - though it's rather annoying"

Anonymous, ON (2020 Subaru Legacy Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"Windshield glass easily damaged. Turned there was a problem with the windshield quality. After we reached out to Subaru headquarters, dealer replaced windshield."

Anonymous A., FL (2020 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Passenger side front window and trunk release often get stuck during winter."

Anonymous A., ON (2020 Subaru Legacy XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Driver's side door handle mechanism broke."

Anonymous, MD (2020 Subaru Legacy Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Wheel bearings

"Within six months two wheel bearings were found by the dealer to be beginning to fail. They were each promptly fixed although in the first case Subaru did not offer to replace the bearing and I took it to a trusted independent shop that replaced it at a much lower cost. In the second instance the dealer's shop replaced it under warranty."

Anonymous, MO (2020 Subaru Legacy Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Started to feel minor vibration which then increased. Took it to the dealer who said one wheel bearing needed replacing immediately. A few months later the same issue and solution for the other front wheel bearing."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
