    First Take
Since the Canyon debuted a number of better small pickups have come on the market that surpasses it in almost every way. The Canyon's unrefined five-cylinder engine, which it shares with its Chevrolet Colorado twin, lacks punch and doesn't offer a fuel-economy advantage over competing V6s. It had to work hard to make power in our tested Colorado crew cab. Handling is sound but unexceptional. The ride is unsettled and the body constantly quivers. The huge 48-foot turning circle makes parking a chore. Overall, these GM trucks trail the current competition in just about all categories. Both engines grow in displacement and horsepower for the 2007 model year.
