"Noted that the engine was overheating and, because we had purchased a warranty, brought it to a Ford dealer. It was determined that there was a coolant leak in the engine. It was determined that the engine could be replaced and paid for with the warranty, which was done. My own thought was that this was the most profitable outcome for the dealer, rather than replacing a head gasket. Also, I checked Consumer Reports to see if this was a chronic problem for this year and model. Apparently not. Also, I live in a mountainous area with a lot of downhill roads. To save brakes, I frequently utilized the downshift paddles attached to the steering column. I wondered if the frequent downshifting put an excessive strain on the engine that may have caused the problem."
