    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

    "wore out earlier than anticipated"

Anonymous, VA (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The issue started in 2022. It became worse last summer. I honestly don't remember what we did to address the problem initially. However, I was told that if it wasn't resolved, I would have to replace the condenser. Fast forward the AC continued to blow out warm air. We replaced the condenser which corrected the issue momentarily. This summer I drive in a car with AC that barely cools in the prime of the day if at all. I must coordinate my errands around early mornings or late evenings to avoid the heat of the day. It does work well on cloudy or cooler days which is few in the South."

Anonymous, NC (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 3.0-L V6)
    Blower (fan) motor

"Blower fan resistor failed. Replaced. 11 months later blower fan motor failed. Replaced both fan motor and resistor. Quick repair. Cost $300 each time."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Ford Fusion Sport 3.5-L V6)
    Condenser

"second time in two years this has been a problem"

Anonymous, VA (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other climate system problem

"Sometimes when car is parked in very hot sun, the electronics for the ventilation system seem to malfunction. This causes the flap that cuts off the heater to open, overriding the a/c or vent. I'm not willing to spend the money on replacing the electronics. On hot days I try to leave the windows open for a time to reduce the heat that has built up while it is parked."

    Anonymous A., DE (2012 Ford Fusion S 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Refrigerant leaks

    "Air conditioner works intermittently."

    Anonymous A., MN (2012 Ford Fusion S 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Suspension/Steering

    What Owners Say

    Ball joints

    "Loose"

    Anonymous A., AB (2012 Ford Fusion Sport 3.5-L V6)
    Power steering

"This was a recall, but Ford is not honoring it! In about 2015 there was a recall for the 2012 Ford Fusion, Campaign# 15N01, EPAS Steering Efforts. This recall was for the loss of power steering in the car. The first occurrence of this happening was in 2017 with about 80,000 miles on the car. I started the car and when I tried to drive, no power steering. I turned the car off then restarted and all worked well. About 7 monthe later this happend again and I took it into the Ford Dealer. They told me that the code had cleared and they could find no problem so it could not be fixed. About 6 months later this happened again, stared and no power steering then turned it off then back on and no problem. Took it back into the Ford dealership and they told me the same thing, no problem found so can't be fixed. Note that both these problems were in the 80,000 to 90,000 mile range. At this point it happened every 6 to 9 months, I took it back to the Ford Dealership a few times over the years just to let them know I was still having the issue. Then in late 2023, then it started happening every 2 to 3 months until in March of 2024 I was at the store and on this day the power steering would come back on with a restart. I had the car towed to the dealership. The next morning, I got a call, and they confirmed that the power steering was broken, and it would be fixed under the recall, 15N01. Later that afternoon I received a call back form the dealership and they apologized and told me Ford would not honor the recall once the car exceeded 100,000 miles, mine was at 121,000 miles. I discussed it with the Dealership that they had seen my car, and they agreed, but now the issue is finally confirmed, and my car is over the 100,000 miles and the recall would not be honored. I then called Ford Customer Service and they told me that over 100,000 miles they would not honor the recall, and I would be responsible for the repair of the steering system. We discussed that I had taken the car to the Dealership when it was happening, and the car was below 100,000 miles but since the power steering worked on the restart and cleared the code, they could not fix it. Ford Customer Service reaffirmed that with the repair being performed at 121,000 miles Ford would not cover the cost, but they would take it forward and to see if information would change the decision. They never called back. I called them back finally and they told me it would not be covered. Final cost of repair $3,000. Note that my Ford Dealership does all my maintenance and repair work, so they have all the records."

Anonymous, PA (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 3.0-L V6)

"Power steering failed with limited warning and, because it is an electronic system, cost over $600 and several days to repair at a dealership. Non-Ford shops wouldnt even look at the problem."

Anonymous, MI (2012 Ford Fusion 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Once. Power steering stopped functioning. Had it towed to garage. They reset the computer, could not duplicate problem. To repair all that could have caused it would cost $2800. Decided not to repair."

Anonymous, RI (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Shocks or struts

    "Need replacing all four sides"

    Anonymous A., (2012 Ford Fusion SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Antilock braking system (ABS)

"ABS and Traction Control lights came on. Ultimately this issue drained the battery - I believe the technician caused this problem, as the car drove fine for several weeks with the lights on - and the car had to be boosted off any time I wanted to drive it. The cost was $2,800 to replace the ABS sensor(s) and get me back on the road."

    Anonymous A., GA (2012 Ford Fusion SE 3.5-L V6)

"Light would go on. Had it repaired."

Anonymous, RI (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Over the one to two years, I have had problems with the brakes. The brake lights would come on and off. It would never register a problem with Ford. Then I had moments where the brakes would require me to press hard into the floor to get it to stop. Ford would not find the problem, and resolve to add more brake fluid. Eventually, a different Ford dealership became concern about my brake fluid level. This dealership found the leak. It is no longer a critical issue. However, the brakes are still soft for my taste."

Anonymous, NC (2012 Ford Fusion SEL 3.0-L V6)
    Pulsation or vibration

"We noticed the Brakes vibrating and making a lot of noise. We had waited quite a while to get them repaired. The total cost was about $800.00 at a reputable local Repair shop. They used quality parts and I decided this amount was less than the amount I would have to put out for a new car."
