The heavy-duty F-250 Super Duty has many strong points. The Ford-built Powerstroke 6.4-liter turbodiesel V8 gets the best fuel economy among heavy-duty diesel trucks while having plenty of towing and payload-hauling capability.
Cabin space is generous, with a large backseat and abundant storage, and noise levels are lower than competitors. Nice features abound, including a clever optional tailgate step and built-in switches for accessories. But the truck has several dynamic shortcomings. A stiff ride and a lack of agility are typical of this class. But stopping distances are long and the F-250's emergency handling has very low limits, even compared to other heavy-duty trucks. We do not recommend the F-250 because of its low emergency handling capabilities.
