Ford Crown Victoria

The Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis twins are among the last big rear-drive sedans with a full frame and a V8 engine. Despite being a bit dated, both remain competitive in the large-sedan segment. Both ride quietly and comfortably and handle adequately for cars of their size. The Crown Vic's optional traction-control system helps in slippery conditions. The soft front bench seat could use more support, and the rear seat isn't as roomy as you'd expect, though the trunk is suitably cavernous. A freshened 2003 model recently made its debut. Revised steering and suspension systems top the list of updates.
