    Dodge Charger Road Test

    Introduction

Chrysler's extensive reworking of the 2011 Dodge Charger comes just one step short of being a full redesign. The basics of the large, rear-wheel-drive sedan remain the same, but improvements are considerable. This version handles responsively and has a steady, comfortable ride. As with its corporate cousin, the Chrysler 300, the cabin is quiet and well finished. The optional touchscreen controls are easier to use than those in many competitors. Visibility is also improved, but is still not great. The refined V6 performs well; a more powerful Hemi V8 is optional. The five-speed automatic transmission is too slow to downshift; an eight-speed is available. The styling impairs rear-seat access. Overall, this iteration of the Charger is wholly competitive with its primary rivals. A high-performance SRT8 version puts out an impressive 470 hp.
