    Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Road Test

    Introduction

We found this version of the Silverado 2500 to be the best choice of the three heavy-duty trucks available on the market during this period. Payload and towing capacity are impressive, yet braking and handling capabilities come close to matching those of the half-ton version of the truck, a combination of performance attributes its rivals couldn't match. The Duramax V8 turbocharged diesel engine and Allison transmission provide an effortless and fairly smooth powertrain, while returning 14 mpg overall. The cabin has decent room and is nicely finished in LTZ trim, but the crew cab's rear seat could be more spacious. Further, ride quality is very stiff and cabin noise is dominated by diesel clatter. Handling is not agile, but does demonstrate a modicum of responsiveness. Test results also apply to the GMC Sierra 2500.
