    BMW 3 Series Plug-in Hybrid

    EPA Range: 20 miles
    EPA MPG: 25 mpg

    First Take
The 330e plug-in hybrid builds on the already accomplished 3 Series which blends athletic handling and an energetic powertrain that makes it fun to drive. With a host of creature comforts, high-tech features, and the ability to drive on electric power for 20 miles, it's all the more compelling. The punchy 2.0-liter turbo works in tandem with the electric drive and the car gets 28 mpg overall once the electric miles are gone. Pure EV mode can be locked in, say for urban driving if the battery is sufficiently charged. It takes three hours to charge the battery on 240-volt. Handling is nimble, the ride is firm yet composed. Seat comfort and fit and finish are first-rate. Note that trunk space is reduced for the 330e due to the battery intrusion. The latest iDrive infotainment system is not as intuitive as previous versions, partly because the climate control buttons are in the touchscreen.
